I have a evinrude 91/2 sportwin, that I have borrowed. It hasn't been used for some time (2 or 3 years), and the guy Iv'e borrowed it from can't remember what the mix is. Can someone tell me the fuel oil mixture, and the best way to get back to top condition.

Re: fuel oil mix

change the water pump impeller firstly then rebuild the carb, check for good spark and your fuel mix should be 24:1

post your model number too please as we can help you to find parts :D

Re: fuel oil mix

Thanks. I'll get the info posted asap. I'll probably need some help on the rebuild and pump impeller change.

Re: fuel oil mix

My 73 - 9.5 uses 50:1 mix. I have not seen a recommendation for 24:1 for any of the model years that I remember. Have a look at this thread from the Top Secret File at the top of this forum for a good list of items you may want to check. Best of luck. Rick.

I'll get the data plate info posted and maybe that will narrow down things. We can go from there. Thanks for the help.

Re: fuel oil mix

My 9.5 Johnson is from 1965. Fuel/oil ratio by the manual is 50:1. We've always mixed at about 40:1 on these older small Johnson's that first came out in the 60's with the leaner mix ratios. This motor has had the snot run out of it. Uncountable hours at high RPM. Still runs like new.

Re: fuel oil mix

The 9.5 was introduced in 1964, along with the 50:1 fuel mix specification. There was never a spec for more oil than that in a 9.5HP.

Running more oil than that will increase smoke, carbon buildup and plug fouling but do no harm otherwise.
