The manuel says "minimum octane 87", does that mean I should run a little higher grade? I don't care about the money, but do care about the performance?

I don't know if this matters, but it's a 2002, 60HP Merc EFI 4-stroke.

Thanks in advance!

Howdy, BBogey. Using higher octane probably wouldn't do any harm, except to your wallet, but it will do nothing at all for performance.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

The engine will let you know if it wants higher octane, by the way it sounds. Does it ping or rattle when you attempt a hole shot?
If it does, put 93 in it. If not, you do not need it.

Re: Fuel/Octane

As always, thanks guys! No, it doesn't ping or rattle, so I'll stick with what I've got.

Also, you may have seen my post about the fast idle lever? Well, my son's girlfriends Grandpa, who just sold his marine shop after 35 years, stopped by and fixed it in 5 minutes!! :D

Thanks!

Re: Fuel/Octane

Glad to hear you got the idle thing figuered out, and thanks for the follow-up. It really helps to know what the fix was in closing. That way,as we run accross the same problem,we just need to do a "Search",and up pops the answer.
Good deal :)
