Then would a 50:1 mix be a much richer fuel mix over a 24:1?...could it explain why i've been getting a bit more blueish/ grey smoke using a 50:1 mix since ive ownd the motor and 1970 12ft. Valco for last twelve years...even when ive used a 50:1 mix with my outboard mux knobs more toward 3/4 lean still witnessing more of exhaust smoke.Mayve i'll try the 24:1 method, just was worried of running to lean thereby a fried powerhead. The original mix was 24:1------But today you will get many different opinions as to what will be proper lubrication for that fine motor.----As previously indicated to you it has a bronze bushing ( if still original ) on the wrist pin.----And that is a known weak point !
50:1 is approx 2% Oil, 24:1 would be 4% oil. So depending how one looks at it, either could be called Richer. A 24:1 mix would be Richer in Oil(double), but 50:1 would actually be a bit Richer in Gasoline, 98% vs. 96%Then would a 50:1 mix be a much richer fuel mix over a 24:1?...could it explain why i've been getting a bit more blueish/ grey smoke using a 50:1 mix since ive ownd the motor and 1970 12ft. Don't confuse the gas to oil ratio with air mix (air to fuel). Run with the factory-specified gas/oil ratio, and adjust the air mix as lean (fuel) as required for smooth running. The engine will tell you if it is too lean (backfire at the shaft outlet -- "lean sneeze") -- or stalling. Then would a 50:1 mix be a much richer fuel mix over a 24:1?...could it explain why i've been getting a bit more blueish/ grey smoke using a 50:1 mix since ive ownd the motor and 1970 12ft. I still remember the Sweet Aroma of burnt TCW Oil. An added Bonus is, it keeps the Skeeters/Horseflies at Bay.If it were mine I would run the 24/1 mix and enjoy the smell.. I actually do like it...
