Re: fuel mix

Hey, Carcardog (where in the world do you folks come up with some of these handles???).
My 1922 to 1964 Johnson Service Manual urges you to use 24:1 (1 qt. oil to 6 gallons marine white or non-premium gasoline). That mix, even with TCW-3 oil, would probably smoke and stink like Beelzebub's goat and fouls plugs at a terrible rate.

Oils are an awful lot better today than they were in 1958, and 1958 engines are an awful lot looser than they were in 1958. Most people run those oldsters on 50:1 with no problem. I'm not gonna recommend it, but a lotta guys do it successfully. Just be sure to use the best oil; WalMart Super Tech is a good buy. 'Nuff said??

Red Sky....
JB

Re: fuel mix

Just curious (as heck)....Is this motor still mounted on a boat? if so, what kind of hull? This motor should be considered a colectable, and restored. Then, only run for special events.
If not, you could probably sell it on E-bay or some other auction site, and get enough money for a nice weekend runner . Just MHO.
