Fuel Line connector question

I have a 1966 Johnson 9 1/2 model # MO-12a. Someone stole my fuel tank. I see a lot of 6 gal. tanks on e-Bay and the non pressure vintage tanks have a three prong connector on the tank. What is the third ( bottom) prong for? Can I just buy and connect a standard connector that both fits the engine and the tank? Also, should I get a 5/16 of 3/8 line?

My motor has a standard 2 prong connector.

5/16ths, is all you need for a 9.5 I'm confused about your tank question. The non-pressurized as far as I know only has two prongs,one for fuel and one for the lock. Just like you have now on your motor. So I guess you should avoid purchase of a three prong tank. Best of luck. Rick.

Good question. I have one too that I would like to know about. It may be for the 3 prong conector on a pressureized tank?? you would not need the second line and would be plugged ?????

It is not a pressure tank. A pressure tank does not have a vented filler cap and also has a hand pumping air pressure mechanism on the top. Look at the pressure tanks offered on e-Bay and you will immediately recognize the difference. My basic question is the bottom third prong.

I am going to Farm and Fleet today to buy a hose kit for an OMC. It is on sale today for $18.00. It includes both connectors, 3/8 th hose and priming bulb. Will this work on my tank??

The third prong (closest to the tank) just a guide to help align the connector and keep it from flopping around. It does not actually go into the connector but slides along the side of the connector body.

Hose size doesn't matter a bit for your motor. Any single line tank w/bulb in hose will work for you, as long as you put a J/E connector on the motor end of line. If you want to put the tank in the front of the boat, just buy the couplers needed and a bulb and 12' or so of line. You can put the primer bulb a foot from the motor w/arrow pointing toward engine and it'll work fine, and you won't have to go to the front of the boat to prime.. Good luck!
