Fuel gauge not working

On the water yesterday our fuel gauge was "bouncing" between the full mark, and the 3/4 mark. Any thoughts on why it might be doing that? And is there a simple fix? Our boat details are below.

Thanks!

two things to check, make sure the wire connection at the sending unit on top of the fuel tank is not loose or corroded.if not replace the sending unit they are not that expensive.

Thanks Joe. Are there any websites I can visit that will detail how to replace a sending unit should it come to that? I personally love YouTube for these purposes, and I'll do a search, but thought I'd ask if there's anything else out there.

It might just be the curse of fuel guages. They are not very accurate and do bounce around.

They really only give a good reading when the boat is just sitting still in the water.

The sending unit is just a float in the tank. If you were cruising around, the fuel in your tank may have been moving around in the tank as well, hence the flucuating reading.

I would still check the sending unit and rear of the guage terminal connections to insure they are tight and corrision free.

Was it a "rough" day on the water? It could very well be the gas in your tank sloshing around and causing your gauge to jump. As far as replacing, its super easy, as long as you have easy access to your sender. basically a bolt off bolt on job with some wiring. Just make sure you get your positive and ground wires straight! Usually Green = Ground Yellow = Positive.
