Look for Wix 33094
Best route is change the thing out for a spin on canister filter

Really? You're going to try to save maybe $30 and risk (at best) starving the engine of fuel, and the subsequent damage that'll cause, or (at worst) a fuel leak and explosion or fire?

You'll spend more in a day on booze and fags than getting the genuine Merc replacement kit. As much I as HATE recommending the use of Merc parts, in most cases their products are superior to aftermarket, and the extra expense is justified.

Just buy the right Merc kit and do the job. The part number for upgrading the those old style filters to the new is 35-807172A 1. That kit provides all the parts and instructions to keep your engine (and you) safe.

I’m with @alldodge on the spin on water separating fuel filters. They are a really nice upgrade and can be mounted in an easier to maintain area of the bilge.

Didn’t know these were fitted to any 4.3 engine.

Since 1993, all 4.3s have the standard Merc spin-on water sep fuel filters, same as the V8s.

The kit I quoted (35-807172A 1) is to upgrade the inline filter to a standard spin-on, and includes all the fittings and mounting hardware to mount it to the side of the engine, just like the V8s, and later V6s....

Spin on is better, but the wix filter replaces the original OEM
