Fuel Filter

A very frustrating weekend with my 3012. It appears that even though I've had the carb rebuilt, there is a serious issue that must be addressed if my little motor is to be of any service. I am in need of a filter assembly or alternatives to OE if it is unavailable. I have searched in the store but the part comes up nill. I believe the number was 277187 when I checked my owner's manual for the motor and applied it in the 'search' box. This part # might be obsolete? If so, what must I do to ensure clean fuel to the carb? Cutting into my existing fuel line would be a chore since it is brass. Need I replace the whole with a rubber line and install an in-line fuel filter?

Obviously, the easiest fix would be original equipment if they are to be had anywhere.

Any help is appreciated

Re: Fuel Filter

Laingsoutboards does not list any fuel filters short of five horsepower.

I am not sure what I may have done wrong in posting this issue here. I only state this out of ignorance since this post compelled mention of "PM's" and doing things in their proper place. Where should I go, or what must I read to avoid further dis-association with the rules?

Re: Fuel Filter

Brian, the PM is a Personal Message. Some of us get flooded with them and prefer not to receive them when the subject and answer benefits everybody when posted on the forum. Anyhoo, the message wasn't meant to single you out as a wrongdoer. Only the reply above the line above "Florida Gators" is directed toward you. The rest is automatically added to every post that tashasdaddy makes.

Now, to answer the question. Laings has a lot of parts that are not listed on his webpage. Call him and ask for what you want.

Also, a real good source of NLA parts is www.sea-way.com Your part number is correct.

Personally, I bought a ten year supply of brass filter screen (one square foot) from www.mcmaster.com I melt the solder and pull the old sintered filter element out and solder in a rolled piece of filter screen.

Re: Fuel Filter

Thanks much for the 'Heads-up" concerning the PM issue. I just wanted to make sure that I was utilizing the forum according to policy so I breathed a sigh of relief when I read your post...for the most part.

I would have to say that your screen idea is intriguing to say the least. Since I don't have a filter at all in this motor for a template and lack the skills you possess, I will need to rely on your excellent tips concerning the two contacts you mentioned to further my efforts in this regard.

Thanks again for your help!
