Fuel Filter

I just changed my fule filter and oil in a 2001 Merc 5.0. Once I fired it up, it ran for a few seconds, throtleing up and down on it's own, and then cut. It cranked againg, for about 5 seconds, and won't crank again. Any suggestions?

First lets clear up some terminology. What do you mean it cranked for five seconds then wouldn't crank?

Crank = engine spinning(powered by the starter)
Was the engine able to spin?

Ayuh,...

Is it turning over, on the starter,+ Not firing/ running,..??

If So,...
Did you prefill the fuel filter,...
If Not,...
It ran outa Gas,+ needs priming...
