I replaced the fuel pump filter and the inline carb filter on my 1985 Mercruiser 170MR. First time on the water ran good for 1/2 hour then starved for fuel at 2500-3000 rpm. Retarding the throttle kept the engine running, but continued to starve after running for a few minuets at 2500 rpm. Opening up throttle starved engine quicker. The fuel pump filter removed was a stone filter and the new filter provided by Mercruiser dealer was a paper filter. Any idea what I did to create this problem?
