Fuel Fill Hose

Hello I have a

1989 Mel-Hart Products/BARETTA SUCCESS 185​

I need to replace the fuel filler hose and cant find the size of the hose to replace it, and the guy i bought this boat from replaced the alt with a car alt and left the internal reg disconnected, but it does charge at 14volts, do i need to fix that or is it ok that way? Please help,

Look HERE based on your powerplant. Car alternator needs to come out and be replaced by a marine alternator. There are more differences, particularly the spark sheilding.

One of the old timers can probably chime in on when standard became 2"
But I believe this year was liekly 1-1/2" as well.

2" is typically reserved for diesel fuel. Never seen it on gasoline powered

Word of caution here if I may, NEVER EVER NEVER install auto parts on ANY marine application, specifically anything electrical (causes sparks) or anything to do with fuel / gasoline delivery (easily explodes violently). You might get away with gaskets and some mechanical items but an auto alternator with no shielding from the sparks internally mixed with gas fumes in the engine compartment can cause a very loud B O O M with you and boat parts flying and burning everywhere (it's also why blowers should be run for 5 minutes before starting your engine) Thanks for letting me share

Yes, definitely don't forget the ground wire from the filler to the tank and to the common ground / bond of the boat itself, static electricity spark would be enough to go BOOM

Yes. And that wire must be a #8 wire, green in color.

Fuel hose diameter is dictated by the size of the fuel tank. Diesels tend to be on larger boats, with larger fuel tanks. Therefore they have larger diameter fill hoses to reduce the time it takes to fill the tanks.

It has nothing to do with whether the fuel is Diesel or Gas.
