Hey, Just had my xr150 at the boat shop to have the carbs rebuilt. It is real hard to cold start now.Once you get it started it runs fine. The enrichener valve (choke) just barely clicks now.I don't believe it is working correctly now. They have the valve turned with the hoses on the top and seems like they were on the bottom before.Does it matter which way it is turned or will it work either way? Thanks for any replies !!

Re: Fuel Enrichener Valve

It should work equally well electrically regardless of the direction it is installed. But the plumbing should be below the fuel level in the carb that feeds it. It's a solenoid that opens a valve to allow pressurized gas to pass when it's triggered. Fuel pressure comes from the fuel pump when it's running and from the primer bulb when it's not. It the plumbing is high in the system, air can backflow into the system if there is no fuel pressure. That shouldn't be problematic if you are in the habit of priming the bulb whenever you start it cold, but it's easy enough to prevent if you're not. However without that pressure from priming the bulb, very little gas gets delivered in a cold engine.
