I get about 15-16mpg in my 2009 Nissan Frontier V6 4x4. I am towing a 1988 Cobalt 192 Condurre fully loaded with four adults in the truck. This has been on relatively flat terrain save for the last quarter mile heading up to Lake Kaweah. Cheers! :-D

i have a 1999 oldsmobile bravada and average about 15-16 both towing or not... the only time i towed on the interstate was with a bad rear end (didnt knwo it at the time) and i got about 14 at 70mph, but that was also through the mountains of vermont.

12-13 mpg depending on how I drive. 2008 Tundra 4x4 D-Cab 5.7L with an 18 foot Baja Islander that I have no clue (and don't really care) how much it weighs. :)

Re: Fuel Economy when towing

for me depends greatly on speed.

I have a 1993 Jeep Cherokee. 4.0 L 4x4. tow an 87 marlin skier inboard direct drive. with gas and all the toys/fixins for a weekend of camping and four people.

at 50-55 I get around 13.

70 to 75 around 6.

I hardly ever go above 55 as it is illegal in the state of CA, and it is just flat out not safe in my jeep. with a half ton its much better.

WOW, fineally, some one else be sides me (at 50-55 I get around 13.)

i thought i was the only one :) towing a trailer is stressful enough, and things can go wonky fast enough with out pulling it 65 or 70 mph or more!!
when my boat is following me i am out to relax!!
besides 55 is the tow law here in ohio also:)

Re: Fuel Economy when towing

It's all 2-lanes in each direction here in Minnesota and the speed limit is 70mph. I typically go between 65-70mph in the right lane for safety and fuel mileage.

My 2007 Ford Ranger with a 4.0L v6 gets about 18-20mpg without a load on the highway. With my boat (Alumacraft Navigator with 90hp Suzuki - I assume around 2000lbs) I get about 14-15mpg if I'm going the speed limit and closer to 10-12 if I'm pushing the envelope at 75-80mph.

Speed kills

I don't fill up before and after each tow, so i can't give accurate numbers, not sure how everyone else is figuring theirs, unless they top off after before and after each tow?

It is exactly 200 miles RT to Solomons. The truck has a 26-gallon tank. I fill up when I leave and I'm on empty when I get back home. Repeat the trip 50 or more times with the same result. Doesn?t take a rocket scientist to figure it out. :D:D

I get 27 w/o the boat, 20 with behind my 9-3. 14' wood jon , 1000-1500 depending on what it's loaded with.

My 5.0L F150 gets 15-17 on its own, can't feel the boat that small. Maybe 14mpg.

I can see it in your case. My case, as I don't have to travel far, is probably to similar to many others. I'm not filling my tank for a 35-40 mile RT. Doesn't take a brain surgeon to get my point :D:D

I suspect people are using the inaccurate overhead MPG displays in their vehicles.

I do know when I used to haul my built rock crawler and flatbed(7K lbs) up near Hazleton PA, in the mountains, my truck got 14mpg.
Now, with the lighter boat and shorter trips it's almost negligible.

I use to not believe mine, but on a recent road trip (w/o the boat) I found it to be fairly accurate. The monitor said 17.9 mpg, actual was 17.75 mpg... not bad for a nearly 400 horsepower 4x4 Tundra running 80+ mph. I even took pics to prove it.

Maybe it's close SOMETIMES, but none compare to hand calculating. ;)

I get 20mpg empty with a 550HP 8000K lb. truck :D

True... I didn't believe it... well, I didn't want to believe it while I was towing...lol

Enjoy that older Cummins... the newer Dog Rams get worse mpg than my gasser. ;)

Re: Fuel Economy when towing

My 3.2 V6 Rodeo ute gets about 15 miles per US gallon of LPG (liquid petroleum gas) or 16 litres per 100 kilometres in normal highway use. When I run 91 ULP it's about 10% better but ULP is double the price of LPG. Towing the boat, which has the aerodynamics of a half-brick, and weighs 4000lbs including the trailer I get about 12 mpg at a steady 60 mph. I'm just glad I don't use the boat to pull the ute! :D
