Fuel delivery issue

Having a fuel delivery issue. Have a new primer and a water separator. Fuel pumps through manually but engine won't fire up. Then we fed the engine fuel from a seperate fuel tank and it runs fine. Motor is a 2002 saltwater series 200. I'm thinking bad water seperator. Boats at the shop where the motor was just installed. Anyone thinking maybe something else going on? Also any recommendations on a water seperator for these motors?

Re: Fuel delivery issue

If fuel is fed into the motor's system when pumping primer bulb then it should fire up,
may not keep running if sucking air but should fire up

check fuel pressure/vacuum to look for restriction
sucking air is not as easy but there are ways to look for that

Re: Fuel delivery issue

Assuming you where having some kind of issue that caused you to change primer and add fuel/water separator I would be looking at the anti siphon valve in the tank........

Also make sure you have the inlet and outlet of the separator connected according to the arrows and not reversed.

We ran fuel from an external tank through the seperator and it ran fine. Going to check the anti siphon valve next. Forgive my ignorance but is the fuel sending unit part of the anti siphon valve or are they two different things?

Re: Fuel delivery issue

We found the problem. The fuel pick up had deteriorated and broke apart. This is a project boat that sat for 10 years. Put in the new pick up and she fired right up on the first try. We got this boat for free last year and it only was put in the water a hand full of times before it was parked.
