My engine will not start. Fuel appears to be inside of my Evinrude E-TEC Engine Management Module (EMM), has anyone ever has this happen to them? Any insight into how this could have happened I would be grateful to know! Thank you.

only water cooling is circulated inside a EMM then out he rear end . how did you determine fuel was inside your EMM unless contaminated water was sucked up and circulated in the whole cooling system.

what is your engine mdl#... what is ...will not start ?
  • does it crank and not start?
  • is it dead (no crank no click nothing ?
  • cranks then sputters
  • do the lights come ON at key ON then cycle off on the tach if you have one

Thanks Crosbyman, for your questions and answers, I appreciate it a lot.
I only assumed the liquid was fuel, great to know it's water cooling and should be there. I of course saw the hoses but it didn't make sense to me that water (any liquid for that matter) would flow over the circuit board or "brain" of the engine. To your question on mdl#, I'll have to check my records on the boat but what I can tell you is that it's the 30 hp power-tilt model.

Prior to the engine not starting, the last time I started her up, as usual, she started right up. I get that beep and then she turned right over - the engine, at most, has 20hrs. She's practically new. But, this last time I tried starting her up, no beep, won't turn over at all. The oil tank is low, but I didn't have enough oil to refill so hoping that's the culprit. Thanks for the heads-up on the ETEC owners board!

Test your battery, as Crosby would say, "no wing nuts"!
no beep indicates absence of Key on power usually ... check all connections
check for blown fuse

think about getting the software EV diagnostic to see fault codes in the EMM . here is an article on the subject which all ETEC owners should get familiar with because ETEC service folks are going the way of DODO birds :-(
