Hello,

I have a Shoreland'r trailer with a Dexter UFP A-70 Actuator. I tried to move the trailer for the first time in a year yesterday and the disc brakes appear to be frozen. Where do I start? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I think your saying you cannot move the trailer forward or backwards (not just backwards) because the brakes are locked

Remove the tires and then the calipers. Rebuild or replace calipers

Fill brake master cylinder and see if fluid can be pumped out thru the caliper brake lines. If it can then flush with brake fluid and then see if brakes work after reinstall

Thank you so much for answering so quickly. I have another question. Do you think this could be related to the breakaway cable? The cable looks like it has been extended all the way to me. Could that somehow I have the brakes locked on? And yes it won’t go forward or backwards. Thanks very much.

Get a few cans of lube and spray EVERYTHING including the breakaway cable. You dont even have to remove the wheels .Spray thru the wheel vents/slots/holes and spray from the backside. You probably have an empty trailer and if so this is common since no weight is on it .Personally I buy a bunch of dollar store cans of lube and totally engulf the hubs in lube from front and back every time I submerge the trailer.....AFTER rinsing /flushing the trailer with fresh hose water.Dont rebuild anything until you lube the heck out of it.Been there...done that!!! The break away cable in my opinion ha not been pulled far enough to lock the brakes

Does the coupler slide forward and backwards within its channel if you push on it? If it does, it is possible the breakaway cable was pulled.

If not, jack up each wheel and see if one or more turn to find the offending caliper

Thank you that is very helpful. If the breakaway cable has not been pulled far enough, that is important. I couldn’t really tell.

The does not slide forward easily. I might be able to get it to slide if I put some pressure on it with a prybar or something. Tomorrow I will spray lube all over the whole thing as suggested and then takeoff each wheel and see if I can figure out what is going on. Thanks for your help.

If the breakaway cable was pulled, you could slide it backwards. From the picture you can see its all the way forward.

I would confirm that it's not the breakaway first.

You probably already know this...
From your picture, it looks like you are also missing the clamp mechanism that grabs the hitch ball.

Let us know how you make out.

I did not know that. I have used the trailer only twice....so I am figuring out how it works now. Thanks for the tip.

Great! I did not have the users manual for the actuator. I will read this now!
Great, problem solved. I took off each wheel and pried each disc brake a little bit with a screwdriver and everything works great. Thanks everyone for your help.

What brand brakes do you have? You may want to lube the guide pins. I do that every few years on my Kodiaks.
