Search this forum for 'fuel pump conversion', or 'pressure tank conversion', 'adding fuel pump' etc. TONS of posts on this topic!

great vid. is there a better way to mount the pump.....so it still clears the cowl, but looks like it was meant to be there? the cable ties dont quite have a factory look.

Re: from pressurized tank to pulse pump

yeah, it's fairly easy to get it to work but to get it to fit and look stock-ish can be tricky depending on the model. some folks mount the pump outside the cowl altogether, but I'm not a big fan of that. others use a piece of aluminum mounted attached to the power head plate to mount there fuel pump on. if you search the forums here and on you tube regarding your particular model you might see how some others have done it. i'm sure someone here has a handy trick. i'll holler if I find it. btw, most folks seem to like Mikuni brand fuel pumps, but they're a little pricey. i've seen people use fuel pumps from other small engines like Briggs and Stratton mowers and they cost about 1/3 the price, but they will probably be a little tougher to mount and won't look as stock, but the price might be right, if that's an issue. good luck.

Is there room to mount the pump on the bypass cover as stock in later years? You can drill a hole in the cover to get the "pulse" if there's room!

Unfortunately, The CD/Fisherman models don't have removable bypass covers.

I was kinda thinking that would be a little too obvious.

I can get the Mikuni pump for under 20 bucks on fleabay. On the bigger motors, mounting a stock pump on the bypass cover is best, but as stated, not possible on the 5.5. I think the Mikuni is a little slimmer than the briggs pump, but have only used mikuni so cannot verify that. I cant remember where I hid the pump on the last one I did??? Maybe under the carb?

This may help:

http://outboard-boat-motor-repair.com/Johnson/Pressureized Fuel Tanks.htm

"Route your vacuum pluse line, carburetor line, and fuel connector line around to the fuel pump which I place behind the hear shift lever up next to the crank case. Trim any excess length form the lines and connect to the fuel pump. When routing these lines, keep them way from any moving parts, or linkages. The cowling should just fit over your new fuel pump. Use zip ties to secure the lines so they will stay in place."

....I believe the author meant to say "...gear shift lever...." :)
