Picked up a old 64 Sea King the other day for the motor to use on one of my other boats, and found out it was a short shaft motor. Needed a long shaft so bought one. The Sea King is a solid old boat with a very good floor, but the transom is rotten, and needs replaced. Thought I would replace the transom, and while doing so make it taller in order to mount a long shaft. I could bring it up even with the ends of the transom cause they are taller. The transom is u shaped where the motor mounts. I would have to extend the splash well up to meet the top of the new transom. Just wanting to get some feed back from some of you fellows here. Is this doable? It should give me a 20" transom instead of 16"

I sold the motor and bought two long shaft motors, and thought since I have to rebuild the transom I might as well make taller for one of the long shft motors.:D

The old transom was plated and I could see rust that had run down the transom from the bolts. I took off the plate, and was shocked at how rotten the transom is. I never have done a transom repair, but got a lot of info from other threads here. It shouldn't be too bad a job.... I HOPE! LOL
