Re: Friend made a very expensive mistake.

After finally getting the boat running he decided to take it out. Without any sort of marine background or boat safety course.

My sister purchased a set of Jet skis this past winter that needed some work and she brought them to me to fix. They are currently un touched and un able to move in my back yard because she refuses to take the safety course.

I told her she could come get them but it wont do her any good because she dosnt have the money to fix them and dosnt know how her self, she just keeps cursing me because she thinks its stupid, but I refuse to allow her to end up like this and we are on Lake Erie! Oh well she may hate me now but she will thank me later.

Hope you friend learned his lesson and that he is safe.

Texas Parks and Wildlife thanks you for the link.

I hope they assess the stupid tax very soon. NO WAY should he be allowed to just leave it at the bottom.

We have enough problems nationally with eco-wack-jobs trying to close off certain waters to boaters. We certainly don't want to do thier job for them.

Nice Dave Ramsey reference.:)
He will regret it if I doesn't make the first contact and give a good report of the incident. The LEO's won't be pleasant if they have to make first contact.

I was talking to the sheriff the other day.
He said the dispatcher had received a call the day of, or the day after the incident.
The caller was vague and evasive, leaving no real information.
I hope that wasn't the call your friend was were referring to, rrKyle.

Sorry. You started the thread. I'm just passing on info and input.
No problem here. I'm just relaying info after talking to one of my many LEO friends.

Looking forward to enjoying the lakes of Central Texas.

::cheers:::D

That being said, if the guy finally reported it, that is good. I'd hate for somebody to run into or get snagged on it at some point.

Downside is you can get in trouble if you don't know the lake.

Been to Stillhouse once and I dont know the lake, I almost got in to trouble. I got completely spooked by the huge amount of trees and branches, ended up destroying a prop. Limped back and havent been back since.

It's a fun lake. Let me see if I can produce a digital map.
I had the advantage of flying over it for years, so I had a pretty good idea about the hazard areas of the lake.

I want to know why a bunch of strangers that don't know the guy, and live in another state and will NEVER put their boat in that body of water, would want to go out of their way to see that this guy gets reported and gets in trouble.

We have a oil well in the gulf that will put more oil in the water in one millisecond than that boat will when it's completely drained of fluid, which probably has already happened by now.

Geeze....

I read back through and didn't see anyone wanting him to get in trouble.
They just wanted him to do the right thing.
Those good people didn't want to see a DaNinja thread titled,

"I tore up my Searay on a partially submerged sunken boat on Lake Belton"
or worse...
"Rescuers waste precious time with an unreported sunken boat"

Uh, check my location...that is my home lake....just like a few others posting here.

But I understand your comparison, we feel for our Gulf Coast brothers and sisters.

So you can't comment about any misbehavior in the waters around Darlington, SC. We can only comment about Lake Stillhouse and Lake Belton?:D
