Just fried a mess of crappie for dinner. Dipped in a milk/egg bath, coated with 10,000 Lakes Seasoned fish coating and deep fried in peanut oil.
Side dishes of pork and beans and some fried tators with onions.
Yeh, a lot of fried stuff but we only do that once in a while. Sure was good eating. :D

I don't list condiments like tartar sauce. :D
Didn't feel like messing with the hush puppies. Tators were easier to fix.

Crappie is hard to beat. They're not large, but they are tasty.

IMHO I'll take a gill over a crappie. But I wont turn down a crappie either.

We used to have a pond behind a house we lived in. When we would get unexpected company around dinner time I would hand everyone a pole and tell them they had to go down to the pond and catch at least ten Bluegill perperson for dinner. Hard to beat any kind of sunfish for table fare. OK, Halibut is good too.

All of them were "slabs", most being over 16 inches long with wide shoulders.

I agree that gills are fine table fare, bur why would we fish for gills when the slab crappie were
eating our bait? :D

True, but after about 20 of them you get into a rythm. Thats pretty much all I fish for all summer with my dad and grandpa......Cleaning: 1 scaler, 1 fileter, 1 that does whichever is needed. When the limit was 50 a person I remember doing a mess of 150 gills in an hour between the three of us.

And I do fish for crappies in the spring, they are tasty for sure..........
