That's CRAZY! I can't really see what boobie's talkin about, but, IMHO, repairs would be more expensive than a used motor, unless you happen to be sentimentally attatched to this motor. I spent $1200 to rebuild the '75 9.9 my dad & I fished with. It was only worth it to me, but I now own a brand new 1975 9.9hp.

no not attatched to it at all, if you look at the 3rd pic, theres two allen head screws, it looks like if i pull those then that whole piece would come out, im gonna give it a shot tomorrow and see about having it welded. Im way to much of a cheapo to spend that much. Im thinking worst case senario i can look into a used powerhead other ones were 100-200, idk how much of a pain it would be to swap that though

I'm pretty sure there are bolts around the outside, also. Look closely. Not sure about your EXACT motor, but, If you don't already have the tools, chemicals, etc... & approximately $100 for the gasket kit, any machine work, pistons, rings, rods, PLUS all your labor (who knows what you'll find in there!), I'd seriously condider buying one. I can't tell ya what happened to it. I've hit crab pots with a buddy who runs a force 50hp & we cut it out, cranked it, & went home. I really wish I could be more help, or that I had a better opinion, but given the pics, well...

Yea boobie, makes perfect sense! somethin had to come apart in there! I'm not sure it really matters what, at this point 'cause he's not attached to it, but I'd kinda like to know what happened, too. I'd like to see a pic of the reeds.
Jeckel, you're lookin at a used motor, 25hp or less, for that jon, right? You should be able to pick one up for less than $500, runnin. I'm seein about the same money, + or - $100. for repairs. Personally, I'd keep the jon, if it's in good shape. I have larger boats, but my jon gets me into bayous that others can't reach, & fish that others can't find!

Re: Free EDIT hi fives

if i could find a 15-25 in good shape for 3-500 i would probably jump on it, the main reason i bought this at the time was because i couldnt find anything close for under 700

The new photo tells the tale, rod cap came undone for some reason.Im with other opiions. For what it would cost ,a great 79 to recent 9.9 to 15 would be good for you.I perticularly like the 9.9 and 15 in the 80's to early 90's.Had alot of them, the 15 is a great and powerful motor.would perform better than the 18

Re: Free EDIT hi fives

no i havent messed with it any today, my plan tomorrow is to see if i can take that section off and take it to some shop to see about having it welded if not or if i change my mind due to the cost of the gaskets, ill sell it for parts and look at getting one like mike mentions. I havent had very good luck finding them on craigslist though

They can be hard to find. It may be worth it to make a short road trip.

Re: Free EDIT hi fives

I'm out here looking at it now and to remove it it's not just those two Allen head screws, I would have too remove the whole power head, so it doesn't seem to be worth it I'm gonna put it back together and sell it for parts. now time to start looking for another one. Thanks again for taking a second look.

Wow I have never seen an intake shatter like that before. Id be willing to bet that power head is toast. Rotate the flywheel and look into the plug holes, are both pistons still moving?
