I got this gem in my inbox supposedly from UPS with the sender addr. of United Postal Service [tehmeiqi12@hotmail.com]

"Unfortunaly we couldn?t carry you the postal parcel sent on 28, October at the right time as there is an incorrect recipient?s address.

To take your package back you should print the copy of invoice that is in the added file

Your UPS"

These worm poops must think that everyone is dumb as a rock or something. If ya gonna pull a scam and posed as something legit, as least use spell check and learn the proper grammar, etc... Our mail server caught it and quarantined the attachment. We've been receiving many of these of different varieties within the past month. It wasn't that long ago when the internet became mainstream it was as innocent as a baby. Nowaday, it's about as bad as any if not worst. OK, maybe 12 or 13 yrs is a long time.

This spam is phishing. Essentially collecting information that can be used for fraudulent activities.

The first thought is who would be so naive or stupid to provide this information.

A study conducted over a year ago sadly showed that success rates for phishing emails was as high as 14%.

Unfortunately, I doubt that has improved much but they make it look so convincing people get drawn in.

Where I work, I currently block upwards of 200,000 a day of this crap. If they get even 1-2 people to respond, it was worth their while.

I got one of those that said it was from Chase bank.It looked really legit with the bank logos and the return email was something @Chase.com.

I called the bank and they had me forward the email to them.
Total scam...The bank thanked me and hopefully they catch the scammers.

The email wanted me to click a link then enter my account number!! Ya,Right!!...Don't freakin think so!!

Don't ever believe that a link in a suspect e-mail is going to go where it says it is. The underlined text could be anything. It does not even have to be related to the actual hyperlink.

For instance, the text could be "http://www.usps.com" and the actual link could be "http://www.foobar.com/gotcha.html"

hope it helps

That was my point.
TD appeared to making an assumption otherwise.
Personally, if I were a mod, I would delete the link.

Re: Freaking scammer

many times these scams are run out of forign countries (often Nigeria) and the US can't do anything about it.

i persoanlly just wish it was legal and easy to track down the people who do these things and kill them in the worst ways imaginable without any chance of getting jailed or fined.

Nothing I dislike more than wishy-washy opinions.

Re: Freaking scammer

This just arrived from our local Sherriff's Department:

Please read the following. It applies to FedEx as well, Thanks. =========== =====================================The newest virus circulating is the UPS Delivery Failure. You will receive an email from UPS Packet Service along with a packet number. NOTE: The word packet is mis-spelled on this line. It will say that they were un-able to deliver a package sent to you on such and such a date. It then asks you to print out the invoice copy attached. DON'T TRY TO PRINT THIS. IT LAUNCHES THE VIRUS! Pass this warning on to all your PC operators at work and home. This virus has caused Millions of dollars in damage in the past few days.
Snopes confirms that it is real:http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/ups.asp

Only read this far DON'T CLICK ON IT or you may as well kiss your ***goodbye. The hacker will already be into your puter then. Send it to USPS. Let them sort it out.
