there is a 99 Four Winns Horizon 21' with a 130 hp Johnson outboard for sale locally. My question, from a skiing perspective, will this boat be underpowered? Is a 130 hp outboard equivalent to 4.3 V6?

thanks in advance for the feedback.

Re: Four Winns w/ outboard

If this boat is actually 21' long and is a Horizon it is not a 1999.

In 1999 Four Winns only offered 3 models with outboards. The 170 Horizon, 180 Horizon and the 214 Candia.

1996 was the last year that there was a Horizon that was larger than 18' with an outboard. It was called a 200 Hoirzon, it had a length overall of 20'2". The base engine was the 130 HP Johnson. The specs show that the top speed should be 40-43 MPH. Being a 2-stroke outboard it should have decent hole shot and 40 mph is probably good for most activities. Yes, I would say performance would be comparable to a 4.3 I/O, however, the I/O may have a little higher top end, it would also weigh about 400 lbs more.

Check the year of the boat you are are looking at to confirm what it is. If you have pictures post them so we can help you positively ID it.
