my second hand boat has some hack job wiring from the previous owner that i am trying to fix up. My project today is getting the rear bilge system working as per factory....
The current setup has a 3 wire 1100gpm bilge pump, sound alarm, and seperate high level switch....
Now, the wiring as it sits right now works only when the high level switch is activated, the previous owner had power wires ran directly from the battery to the float/pump but the switch on the dash to manually operate the bilge does not trigger the pump as the pump is not plugged into the factory harness.....essentially they had it setup as a completely separate system ran directly off the battery. I have located the factory 4 wire plug for the Bilge and would like to fix this up properly.
My Questions are.....
1. is it typical to have an auto bilge AND a high level switch? the high level switch is mounted right on a factory platform so i am assuming it came with that. To me it makes sense, if the auto bilge float plugged up with gunk the high level switch should still trigger it as a failsafe?
2. Should that factory 4 wire harness provide power with the battery and ship systems switch off or did the previous owner have it correct running it direct to the battery? In factory form i would think it should so your pump always has power in case the boat starts taking on water while you are away. I cant seem to get power to this harness no matter what i do but i will keep digging into that ( seperate issue)
the way it was wired worked, but i want to be able to operate the pump manually from the dash. Ive tried looking at the wiring diagrams but cant make heads or tails of it
Thanks
