Found a small o ring on the ground I don't know where it came from

I just got done with a transom install and found a small o ring on the ground under the motor and I have no idea is it's mine or was already on the shop floor. I don't remember there being any o rings in any of the linkages.
i did drop the lower unit to replace the hose that runs the speedometer and to check the condition of the impeller but I didn't see anything fall out at the time.

ETA. The motor is a 2003 Yamaha f80b 4 stroke

Forgot to mention the o ring is about the diameter of a pencil and the inner hole is half that width.

Figured it where it goes. Started watching you tube videos and found a parts diagram on the internet and the o ring goes on the little splined shaft in front of the water pump housing.

That would be the shift shaft.
