Hi, I found a 100% complete Gale Buccaneer 12HP in the trash. The Serial and Model numbers are

Model 12D15B
Serial 683825

Can anyone tell me what year this outboard is or where I could find new parts for it if even possible. I would like to restore the outboard to original condition.

Thanks

Can't ID the year for you, Skidooosl, but when someone does you should be able to determine what JohnnyRude the engine was based on and get parts that work.

That's a 1957 Gale Sea King, made for Montgomery Ward. Gale was the generic mfg. division of OMC/Evinrude/Johnson for many years. Any place that carries parts for 50's model Rudes/Jonny's should be able to help you. Most of the ignition parts...coil,points,condensors..and impellers were universal by then. Good motors...get it running and keep it.

My dad has a Gale Buccaneer, 1957 I think. I was just wondering how much it is worth, if anything. I want to fix it up so where do I find the parts I need? Thanks

You should do your own thread with the model number to insure the proper year. It's to confusing when
people jump in on a thread.

Both of you, do yourselves a favor and get a parts book for your motors. Then you can look up the number for the part you need before you go to the Johnson or Evinrude dealer. Otherwise most of them won't give you the time of day. Surprising how their attitude changes when all they have to do is hand you the part and take the money. Ken Cook at outboardbooks.com has the book. Well worth the price you have to pay.

Your 12hp is mostly the same a J/E 1956-15hp. But not completely.

Re: Found A Gale Buccaneer What year?

Let's not get confused here. 12D15B is a 1957 Gale Buccaneer. Gale made motors for a number of stores under their brand names. Monkey Ward's "Sea King" was one of them. "Buccaneer" was Gale's own brand name sold under by their own dealers. All this to say that the 12D15B is a Buccaneer, not a Sea King. etmcook, the model number (such as 12D15B) determines the brand and year. The serial number doesn't help much.
