Hello, I have a 1991 Bayliner 2070. It started to become difficult to put in forward gear. Just took it out today and now it is stuck in forward gear and won't go back to neutral. Is it a common problem to this model? Can this be corrected easily? Thanks!

Re: Forward gear

Hi and welcome to iboats.

This has little if anything to do with the boat model.

It has to do with the controls, outboard, or i/o drive unit. This boat was available with several different engine and outdrive options.

You need to tell us what you have. (engine, drive, controls)

It could be as simple as a loose cable, or may be a broken outdrive.

Re: Forward gear

Thanks for the reply!

I believe it is a 120 HP Force Outboard L-Drive with a Mer engine. Please let me know if you need more information. Thanks!

Re: Forward gear

If you indeed have an L-drive, I can't really help you.
I have only seen a few, and never worked on them.
They are relatively rare, and were only made for 3-4 years.

An l-drive is in the photo below, the drive exits the hull on the bottom, not the back.

Re: Forward gear

Just checked with the previous owner. It was also difficult for him to shift into gear so he had his friend looked at it but his friend broke the button on the handle by forcing it into gear because he did not know he had to push the button in order to shift it into gear. Would this be an issue from the button and/or handle? Thank you in advance for any help?
