Boat Bayliner is equipped with engine Force 50. During engage with low units it is periodically glitch (1-2 times per minutes). At very low or high RPM engine shakes more smoothly but at middle it really rough like something was kicked under water. It is disappear at idle that means it is coming from lower unit. Does somebody can help me to understand what is going on ?! Thanks in advance. Nick

By glitch, do you mean a noise? a miss?

It is like a shoark kick or shake. Very sort but strong enough to shake boat like stamp under water

Re: Force50 mechanical glitches

Drain the lower unit into a pan. It holds 12 oz of "outboard gear oil". Screw to drain unit is labled "FILL". Unscrew fill with pan under to catch the lube. Unscrew the screw labled "VENT" above the prop. Both of these screws are on the starboard side of lower unit.
Run finger though drained lube, and feel for chunks of metal. Chunks bigger than a grain of salt means gear damage. Fine filings are normal. Also note color of drained lube.
If grey, or streaky, lower unit has water in it. One or more seals have failed, allowing water to enter.
I think the glitch may be a piece of metal moving about in the lube. When it moves into the way of the gears, it crunches.
Let me know what you find, and good luck.

Foot12,
Thanks you for your participation to resolve in my problems. Yours thoughts pretty much matching my worstes suggestion. Before lower unit start to crunch I replaced oil but during ride I noted that is too much oil came out. Oil has grey color (means water inside). Today I will check LU on presence of metal pieces.
