Long story short what's your guys opinion. Have an option between an 1990 90hp Force or a early 90's Johnson 70hp. I cant seem to find any stats on to compare the two engines. From what I've heard the Johnson even being a 70hp will be close to the same output as the 90 hp Force. Plus side for the Johnson it doesn't have the old obsolete T&T the force has on it. Plus I'm assuming that the 70 will be lighter. This is going on a pontoon. What's your guys thoughts?

As I am a Chrysler/Force guy and even Mercury and I like them, my answer is the Force.
The engineering of both I would say they are equal.
Maybe the Force is a bit older but then more old school and easy to work with.
The Force would be a bit harder on fuel.
My experience from the 70/75Hp OMC is that they melt pistons.
Why I do not know, maybe lean air fuel mixture of one of the carbs due to clogged jets.
Many 70/75Hp OMC here in Sweden are out for sale with a blown piston.
Parts will be easier to find for the OMC, but parts (used) for the Force will be cheaper.
I think the Force will deliver more torque due to more displacement (cubic inch).
But you put the question in the Chrysler/Force forum and I think we are a bit fond of them, so make your own choice.

3-cylinder OMCs for certain years had a problem with an airlock in the cooling system, resulting in overheating. Tell-tale elbow had to be moved to the top of the engine.

I've had both brands over the years just trying to see what everyone's opinion is. I think both engines have their strengths and weakness. Just trying to figure out what way to go.

my mechanic told me (he is 75 years old, been working on OB motors for over 45 years and he said the Mercury "150 BLACK MAX" was one of the best motors he ever worked on,, people would just abust them becuase they were very fast motors,, but would handle the abuse!

The 85/90 Force were said to have the best power to weight rating for that motor.
The rest is my opinion.
The T@T on the Force is the weak point. But can easily be fixed with a few wrenches.
They BOTH are hard on fuel.
The Johnson electronics seem to last longer.
Lower unit, both are about the same for longevity, both need regular maint.
