Force L-Drive Lower Unit

hi<br />I have a 1991 Bayliner with a 120 hp force L-Drive. the lower unit was drug on the pavement by the prevous owner and ground a nice hole in the nose of the gear case. It didn't damage the gears or shaft other then to jam them with debris My question , can the case be welded or is it pot alum and if it can't do you think if i drilled and threaded holes in case for screws and sealed and capped it would it hold? the surface edges are nice and flat(couldn't have been a highway around here where it was drug)with plenty of meat for screws.<br />thank you for your time<br />dennis

I don't think you can successfully 'cap' it and make it waterproof.It can be welded.But if the hole is too large,be aware that the forward gear bearing is shimmed in it's location,and the screw in the side controls the pivot of the shift fork.If these are disturbed,problems will occur.<br /><br />DHP
