Force 90 HP Water port

I noticed on last weekend while I was flushing my 95 Force 90 HP with "muffs" and a garden hose that a steady stream of water was coming out of small (maybe 1/4") port under the cavitation plate on the right side of the lower unit (if you are looking at the motor from the rear). I don't ever recall seeing that before. I thought maybe a plug had fallen out, but I looked closely and the port doesn't appear to be threaded. Does anyone know if that motor is supposed to have a water outlet in that location of the lower unit? I called the local marine shop and talked to them and they told me that many motors do but that they didn't know about my specific model. He said all I could do was take it in, which is a 250 mile round trip! Not what I want to do if this is just something I haven't noticed before.

Thanks!

It is probably a drain hole. Earlier units had a couple of them about 1/8 in size to drain any water that collected in blind chambers of the casting--prevents freezing and corrosion damage.

I'm pretty sure thats a drain hole. I think there are a couple. Poke around, literally, and see if you find another and see if it's clogged.

Re: Force 90 HP Water port

The guy at the marine shop thought it was a drain as well but didn't think he had ever seen one larger than 1/8th in. I think this one is. I'm going back down there in the morning, I'll check it out extra close to see if it is threaded. I presume that if it is NOT threaded that it is a drain hole. If it IS threaded I'll assume it must be a port that is supposed to be plugged.

Thanks for the feedback.

It's a drain.It depends on the motor for the size.My 85 has holes about 3/16.The Merc.has 1/4 in holes.
When you run the motor in the water. It will work it;s way into the casings.
You need drain holes to get rid of it.J
