Hi I am new to boats. I have an 88 boat with an 85 hp force outboard. I had it in the water 1 day , the next day it would not start up again. looks like it does not have any spark at any of the 3 cylinders. The repaire manual is very confusing.Note that this boat was sitting on land for about 2 years. so far i know that the number 1 ignition coil in open in the secondary side. checked the triger wire and they all have 48-52 ohms. the stator had 740k ohms while still on the motor ***. Now the book says 700ohms.
Is there an easy way to find out what is causing this no saprk condition thats clear.Or does anybody have any easy way to find the problem .Should i take the flywheel off and just run a visual check on everything??
thanks for the help

Re: force 85hp no spark

Basically what you are saying is one day the motor worked fine and the next day it did not? Does this motor have a lanyard switch. It is used to hook on to the driver so if he falls off the boat the motor will kill. If you have a lanyard switch and it is not plugged in you will not get spark. It probably is your ignition switch but if it is the lanyard it will save you a lot of grief

Re: force 85hp no spark

hey eurolarva, the switch you are talking about,is that the stop switch on the control box next to the ignition switch?
If so looking at the repair manual from seloc. It has a white and blue wire on it.looks like white wire comes from the ignition modules and the blue wire goes to ground. I had previously disconnected the white wire from the terminal block on the side of the engine and still had no spark. also disconnected the rectifier and still no spark. im about to rem,ove the flywheel just tosee if i can find anything wrong with the stator or trigger.
thanks for the reply.
