New to us 86 Bayliner w/Force 85.

Runs great but steering is stiff. If you let go of the wheel it turns by itself real quick.

I am told the steering is hydraulic like the tilt. The tilt works great.

There must be some kind of adjustment for the steering. Must be cable operated?

What should I look for?

Does anyone have a tech sheet that shows how to adjust things?

Looking for suggestions and things we might check as we take panels off and look deeper.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Re: Force 85 stiff steering

There are grease fitting on the mid section. They come stock with cable steering. If it's cable steering, unhook the steering cable then lube the mid section till it comes out the top and bottom seals. If it is cable and the motor moves freely then the cable will need lubing or replacement.Spray the steering cable where it comes out of the tilt tube.I keep a can of WD-40 on my boat all the time.ANTI-SEEZE will turn to perma sieze.Use a good marine or lithium grease.
The steering:On the lower unit the exhaust snout needs to be turned in the direction of the turn(if it pulls right then turn it right).J
