I have an 89 force 50 that overheats at speed.
When Idling it spits water just fine.
The impeller looks just fine as well. Altough I just read a post about some impellers having a brass ring that can fail to hold the impeller.
Im going to pull the lower again today and try to twist the impeller on the shaft to see if it fails that way.
So does anyone have answers for this scenario aside from the impeller spinning on the brass ring?
Things I have done already:
1: Replaced the exhaust box gasket that was leaking
2: Cut the center out of my T-stat for testing purposes untill my new one
shows up.
3: Attached a hose to the bottom of the brass tube and then sealed the port in the powerhead where water comes into the exhaust box, "Had the exhaust box off changing its gasket" I have a perfect seal from the brass tube into the powerhead.

While you have the lower end off
backflush water through the t-stat and make sure the tubes is clear
There's a "poppet" (sp) that also can fail when clogged
Make sure the waterpump housing is clean and not pitted and sealed well to the base
I had the same problem with my Force motor and eventually found out the shaft was too short
Hope you have better luck than I did
But the above are some of the suggestions I got when I was having that problem
