Force 50 cooling system

I've noticed when flushing the cooling system with engine running, water is flowing out the idle relief holes (normal).....but also.....filling up in the engine compartment. Is this a sign that something is broken? If so, how can I fix it? Any sites with schematic diagrams to help would be great.

Thx for the reply roscoe. <br /><br />With the engine trimmed down water collects to the back of the compartment. It appears like water is seaping up from under the starter; hard to tell though. It is still cooling well and been running like this probably for 2 years now. But I will try to fix it before it turns into a bigger problem.

I just looked on the site to see the diagram.<br /><br />Under the bottom cowl is the trim cover assembly (where some water can be seen leaking out too). Is it possible to remove the trim cover assembly without taking the cowl off? Would hate to use force and break it cause the part is no longer available.

It's a Force 50, 1996. Model OE258912.

According to tha serial number, your motor may be a 1997.<br /><br />Bad news smitty, time to buy a Clymer repair manual.<br /><br />Either it is leaking from the exhaust cover on the side of the engine, or the adaptor plates beneath the engine.<br /><br />The exhaust port gasket, and the exhaust port cover gasket, are numbers 12 and 14 in this photo.<br />

<br /> <br />If it is the adaptor plates, you will have to remove the powerhead after disconnecting the fuel and electrical connections.<br />Between the powerhead and the motor leg, is an adaptor plate with a gasket on each side of it. Have seen several reports of these gaskets failing, even disintegrating, on late model Force motors. Here is what it looks like.<br /><br />

<br /><br />And below that, is another adaptor plate and gasket, also an exhaust tube. Inspect them all if you have to tear it down that far.

Thanx for the help, looks like a big job. Will need someone with experience to help me out with this one to inspect components. Would hate to do it, change 1 part and be left with the same problem.
