I am looking to buy a used force 150hp runs good. compression is 120psi equally per cylinder, trim works very good looks well maintained, but #1 cylinder piston has a impression of the spark plug hitting but no other aparant damage he won't take under $1000. What could the impression be caused from? And is this a fair price?
also is ok to replace a force 1989 125 with this 1990 force 150 for 1989 bayliner 19'11" with cudy cabin.

The last year of production for a FORCE 150 was 1994.
Is this the in-line 5 cylinder???? or does it say Force by Mercury?? How many cylinders??

OK, you found it was a '90 Model....
I have a hard time believing there is no damage with a sparkplug impression in the piston top...Wrong plugs can do this. If the compression is ok, I will assume needle bearings aren't an issue, BUT...I would strongly recommend you walk away from this one if he is stuck on a thousand bucks....750 would be the MAX value in my opinion due to the history of that engine.

The 5 cylinder design didn't prove to be a long-lasting engine. There's a few out there still running, but very few people could make one run right, or as would be expected. Consistant Idle was a problem, as well as carburation....very hard to dial in and make run like a 150hp engine should. There are parts out there, but finding them will become an issue which we don't see with the more common outboards.
A J/E 120 looper will walk off and leave the force 150 on the same boat.
