Well, I pulled down the lower drive to replace the waterpump on my dads boat. Water pump impeller is in perfect condition. (Replacing it anyways.) The plastic housing that the impeller sits in is cracked. It cracked in the spot that the tube that feeds water to the engine gose into. Is this a problem? Its not a bad crack but it dose go through to the flow side of the housing tube. Also, There was no gasket in the tube. Is there supposed to be. I haven't gotten my rebuild kit yet as I wanted to be sure that all the gaskets were right so I took it apart before hand. From what I've seen on pictures it looks as though there is no gasket/o-ring for that feed tube from the pump to the motor. I just wanted to make sure.

I also am pretty sure I need to replace the plate that the waterpump mounts to. I haven't been able to find this online. I don't have any boat parts stores near by. Makes it kinda hard to get parts. Luckily my local autoparts store can get parts from Sierra. Dose anyone know where I can find this plate??

If what I'm saying dosen't make sence let me know.

Thanks for the help.

I would change the housing too. If the housing would fail, then you run a chance of starving the motor of cooling water. There is no gasket on the tube. It slips into the plastic "adapter" which fits into the housing.

There are two types of kits. One is usually referred to as an impeller kit. It should have all the gaskets, impeller, new bolts and plastic adapter for the water tube. The other (and more expensive) is a usually referred to as a water pump kit which includes all of the components of the impeller kit, plus the housing that the impeller is mounted in.

Only place I've seen the metal plate that the pump mounts to is on some of the internet auction sites. Not an easy piece to find. Only source would be a complete lower unit which is pretty pricey. Why do you think you have to replace it?

Well the gasket surface for the waterpump is not perfect. Its really not that bad and I actually do believe that it will seal. The thing that we are more worried about is where the drive shaft comes through. The metal on the plate is thin in that area. We're just worried it may get a hole and water may possibly get passed the driveshaft seal.

Seems I'm having trouble finding the plate as well as the impeller housing. My parts store got the rebuild kit but it didn't include the housing. He is still checking to see if he can get that part. All the pictures that I've seen online don't show the same housing I have. They could be Generic pictures but I don't want to order anything until I'm sure.

Thanks

Without knowing the S/N or year of the motor, the P/N for the water pump kit w/housing, gaskets, and impeller is probably a 2011 or FK1204-1. One of the two. I've never seen just the housing by itself. I suspect you have to buy the water pump kit to get the housing.
