Force 125 shift shaft adjustment

Reverse is slipping on my Force 125. Neutral is also a little back towards reverse instead of dead center on the gear shift as it should be. When in reverse, very little throttle is worse than closer to full throttle. The more gas you give it, the less it sounds like it is trying to come out of gear. Supposing the shift shaft needs adjustment, how difficult is this, and can it be done without getting into the lower unit? Thanks.

Re: Force 125 shift shaft adjustment

You need to adjust the cables. If possible tow it to a dealer that knows Force motors, Its not hard and minimal charge. Thing is YOU MUST KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING! Both gas and throttle must be in sync. If you are mechanical, get a manual and do it yourself...not hard, but do it soon. LU's have very EXPENSIVE gears. Okay to use forward, but resist using reverse until fixed. What you are doing is rounding the dogs on the gears.

Follow up (I AM getting old~!)<br />No, you do NOT need to touch the LU, just the cables in the base of the motor.
