i have a 1989 bayliner bass trophy 18 ft with a force 125 it only runs about 30 mph is that normal at that speed it barely brings the boat out of the water should it go faster than that also sometimes when i start it i have to put it in gear fast and get the rpms up a little or it dies:confused:

1- check for spark on all 4 plugs.
2- check the compression.
3- fuel system, is there fuel getting into all 4 cylinders?

If not, rebuild carbs, then perform link and sync.

...what he said.;):)

With one other thing you should consider checking....which is your hull and its foam floatation. Make sure your boat isn't waterlogged. If it is...you might be trying to push and plane an addition 500lbs+ of weight you don't know about.
Bayliners were well known for this problem so what you might want to do is run your boat over to a weigh scale and see what it reads and compare this to a factory weight.
Good luck.

Re: force 125 not much power

Assuming your boat is not waterlogged and that you are running a 13x19 or 13x17 propeller, you probably have one cylinder not firing or not producing power.

First thing to check is the compression of all four cylinders. Next, check the spark on all four. Get back to us with the results.

For those attached to this thread other than the OP, please start your own thread and let us know what troubleshooting you have done and if you have a manual or not.

Re: force 125 not much power

i have a 1989 125 force and i had the same problem with having to bring the rpms up to avoid stalling. i used a product called quicksilver power tune and it fixed all my power problems and stalling problems. its basicly just a quick and easy way to clean your carbs without takein them apart or even off the motor. i guarentee this will fix your stalling problem, just be sure that youo follow the directions on the can to a T.
