I have been working on my dads boat for him and the cap on his trim cylinder is cracked in half. I believe the stamping on the trim housing is 818055. What I need is the cover assembly for it. I have called around to parts stores and apparently the cylinder cap is made from "unobtanium". I get a few good chuckles when I say I need a new cap for that trim. It sounds to me that I am not the first to need one of these. Any help would be appreciated.

Also the motor has a pretty good grind going into reverse. Any ideas there also?

Thanks

Re: Force 120 Trim parts

Look to buy whole assy (ebay?) or get lucky with some NOS. if you get desperate send me pm. I have a couple of rejects that will seap oil due to pitting around o-ring seat. they are pieces of junk that I should have thrown out but they will at least cover the hole for you and hold long enough to get trailer bracket into place.

still leaves question as to why it cracked. maybe your thrust bracket is bad/missing and swivel came down on cover instead of piston shaft. maybe something got wedged between engine and trim. or maybe somebody just got careless and whacked it with a hammer. if you don't figure out why then you stand risk of repeating.

Re: Force 120 Trim parts

I found one that has a different number but I found that it might cross up to be the same part that superseded the other one. 818055F is the part I am thinking I need. The stamping on my part does not have the 'F' at the end, does the F mean anything and do you know if part 449545-2 will cross up? The cover I have is completely split in half. Anything is better than nothing in regards to getting that motor up out of the water. I would gladly send you some $$ for shipping and any amount you wanted for the part.

Three of the bolts were broken initially when I had it disassembled I noticed a hairline crack in the cast cap. as I tightened the new bolts "pop" and it was all done at that point. I think it must have been banged around to bust those bolts.

if it is a five sided cover from force trim then it will work. there were no changes during entire life cycle of product (1970-1995) that prevents one revision from working on any other.
