Yeppers, the homemade bullet design like that makes the cable so, so much easier to install plus add mercury power tune spray 92-858080Q03, it goes in like melted butter... Without the bullet 'some say heat the end of the bellows in warm water in which still makes it pretty challenging to accomplish and could still damage the bellows going in especially with the aftermarket shift cable bellows.... Also recently learned of hint number 2, if using an aftermarket shift bellows, try to reuse the original Merc OEM hose clamp part number 54-815504320 as there is a design difference in the clamps and the aftermarket clamps tends to walk the bellows off the gimbal housing as you tighten the clamp down and if you do get the aftermarket clamp to work, there's a decent chance (in my opinion) that you are not getting it torqued down properly like the OEM clamp does.

Mercruiser transom bellows hose clamp position is key too when installing...
