Shop Craig's list like you would anything else. Shop local and stay withing the range that you are willing to travel to see the product. Remember common sense, if it sounds and looks to good to be true it may be. Check it out or yourself. If you have any doubts about the item or the seller, don't buy. There are some real crooks on Craig's list, but don't let that scare you off. Many people have gotten good deals, including myself, on Craig's list. But then again, I spent weeks monitoring for the right boat. I went to see it, but did not buy at that time. I always allow some cool off time before large purchases. Emotion is usually what gets people in trouble. It tends to cloud your sense and judgment. That is what the crooks are hoping for. Dazzle with one hand, while the rob you with the other.

Got my Mckee Craft earlier this season off Craigs List.
I've been enjoying the heck out of it all season.
Matter of fact, we took a little putt up and down the creek tonight with her.

If its cheap enough I will take it. Bought my 94 monterey off of craigs list. Looked for a long time, then found what I was looking for the price was right. Went for long test run. Called the guy a couple days later and took her home. Have been using it every weekend. You can get good deals on craigs list and ripped off. Just got to do the work and find the right deal.

i have had great success buying and selling on craigslist, and ebay. you have to be honest in selling, and careful when buying.

Caveat emptor.

One more thing... never ever participate in a deal where the buyer wants to pay via moneygram or western union. They're scams. Those two companies work in such a way that it's easy for the seller to defraud you, with no recourse on your part.

Likewise, if you see an offer from someone where they will mail you a check and then "a friend" will pick the boat up, run away.

Never go to pick up a boat or any other item somewhere you've never been late at night with a lot of cash in your pocket.

All that said, I think craigslist is the best place to shop for boats... usually the best prices from people who don't know what they have or what it's worth, usually local so you can go look in person.
