I just received an invitation (via snail mail) to play in one of the World Poker Tour's satellite tournaments in Kansas City. (Winner advances to the next level.) Not that I think I have a snowballs chance at winning it big but I sure would like to play at that level one time. The only problem is that it?s a $1000 - $50 game and I have to convince momma it?s ok to lose the money. That may be harder than pulling a Royal Flush...

Re: For the poker players

As a avid poker player myself. I can understand wanting to play at a higher level .Playing for stakes that high, would make me nervous. The experience of playing at this level might make it worth the price of admission. Like you said convincing your wife that's it ok,(to lose the money) would be the real challenge.

always wanted to play in the big game, unless I can get into one of them free entry games and win a free seat on the computer, it will never happen.

my wife seen me watching one of them million dollar games on t v and she said you should get into one of them games, I said to her, if you don't mind me taking 10,000 out of the savings for the entry fee. It was the end of that conversation.

The buy-in is $1k?

I guess if'n ya got a grand to blow, then why not, unless ya got an addictive personality, then I'd say no.

My guess is that you would be playin' against a bunch of "Why nots" like yourself than actual pro players.

Personally, if I had the $$$$ to blow, I'd just walk in, throw the $$$$ in the air and walk out. It would save a ton of my time.

IF and only IF you can scrape the money together without too much trouble. Go for it! A weekend in Vegas would cost that much. $1,000.00 is a small price to pay in order to not say "what if" for the rest of your life.

I think you need to convince Mrs. Bubba that the two of you should spend a romantic weekend in KC. And then, after she agrees that this is a wonderful idea, (maybe a couple of days later) tell her that you got an invitation to a poker tournament that same weekend, and maybe you could take a couple of hours to go to it while she goes to a day spa (or whatever she likes but knows that you would never go with her). When she agrees that this is a wonderful idea, you can gently break it to her that it is a little more money than you would normally spend, but it is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I don't know anything about your financial situation, but for somebody that likes poker, this really is an exciting opportunity. If the two of you can have a weekend that you will both remember for the rest of your lives, 1k isn't all that bad. It is cheaper than most summer vacations. Just make sure she enjoys it too.
