Hey guys, another new guy here, but I need some guidance...I have a 1973 Bayliner Quartermaster, Volvo-Penta AQ130 motor, Chrysler 270 outdrive, and my question is where oh where can I find a gas tank for this thing? :mad-new: Im sure it had on at some point in its 40 years of existence, but it was removed at some point in time. I am currently redoing the inside and the entire floor was foamed. I cant find a picture of this boat, let alone what kind of tank it may have had. I emailed Bayliner and they were no help given how old the boat is. I do know that the tank was a 40 gallon tank. That's all I know. I have PM'd a couple forumn members but have yet to receive a response. Any push in the right direction would be helpful. Thanks.

You will probably have to have one fabricated. Any metal shop can do it with the correct measurements.

Welcome to iboats!:welcome:

There should be a standard fuel tank that will fit the available space. Click on the link to shop for one.

AFAIK there is no such thing as a Chrysler 270 outdrive. Volvo Penta 270, yes.

My gimble housing says chrysler marine, and when I try to look things up for the boat, my motor keeps getting paired with a chrysler 270...strange, ill have to look into this a little deeper i guess, thanks for the heads up

Ok your outdrive is most likely an AQ270 or AQ280. My engine is an AQ130D with an AQ280 outdrive. If you look on your engine I believe the tag is on the portside. On the outdrive there should be a tag on the front top side of the gear box above the driveline bellows. And yes the fuel tank is 40 gallon. Outside dimension I believe is 7"inches deep by 21" wide by 5'ft long. It is supposed to be located in front of the engine below deck in between the stringers. And no there are no front motor mounts on this model. If you watch craigslist you probably could find one.
The last post on page 2 of my resto thread is my engine tag. you will see it shows not only the engine model but also what drive it was paired with. If you scroll through my thread you will see what yours should look like.

I read through your thread probably 5 or 6 times looking for little odds and ends, for example the motor mounts (or lack thereof). So this motor is supposed to just hang on the transom with no support up front? As far as the fuel tank, I had two bulkheads in between the stringers, no way a 5 ft. long tank would fit...Someone has change things in the floor so I guess I need to do some more research and try to correct this...I do appreciate the info, that's a huge help so I can start looking for the correct tank. Thanks again guys
