Do i need to put foam back in to my boat?

How do you know if the foam is structural??

Lastly if i need foam can i use layers of the pink rigid kind glued up??
How about the white kind ( looks like little beads of foam glued and pressed together)

Love this site i can ask questions and dont get hollered at for the dumb ones.:D

Yes, unless you don't mind it being at the bottom of the lake after a collision or breach of hull.

Structural foam is usually the "wet" kind where it's stuck to everything.

I had the white styrofoam in mine. That saturated stuff I replaced w/ the pink insulation foam (didn't bother gluing it). The pink stuff supposedly doesn't absorb water.

Yep.

Also for consideration: Float Noodles from the Dollar Store, or sealed up 2-liter bottles. W/ the bottles, put them in the freezer, open, then seal. The air inside will expand and keep the sides rigid. I sealed my caps w/ left over epoxy, tied them (about 7-8) and threw them under the floor near the bow.

Re: Foam Q's

if the foam is structural.....it needs to be replaced....what came outta there?

if its not structural.....its your call......uscg says you need it ynder 20 feet.

its your call.....lots of people dont use use it.

the reason we all hate "water sucking foam" (thats coors line)is because it holds water next to the srtingers and transom....that rots and ruins boats....

if you want to be safe and use it......get some old life vests and throw them under the floor....leave an acess panel so you can remove them at the end of the season.....and dry them out.......it will make your boat last for a long time.......each pfd will hold about 200 lbs.....and ugly olde ones are avaliable at any garage sale for cheap

An Adult pfd will float a 200lb man because of his natural buoyancy but will only float about 50-60 lbs of weight.

Re: Foam Q's

I tore out the foam and found its not as deep as i thought. Deepest spot was 3''. The floor hasd a Channel running down it so the water from the Bow seating area dumps into the channel and goes to the back of the boats Bilge area (i think its what its called right??)The whole "channel" has some serious woven fiberglass there. (looks heavy and huge woven)

The floor was toast so i brushed that up. And poped the foam out, it looked like they put down the floor and drilled holes in it and squirted the foam in under it.

The stringers look like just two boards running front to back with a 1x10 on top

Stringers were L shaped if you'd look at them from throught the transom.
With 2 support 1x4 's going cross the hull. The foam was squirted in under them too. (I didnt take the stringers out on accounta the rain/ tubing adventures.)

Should i do the same (inject foam all over) or could i just use pink insulation board and shave it to fit everyware tight?
Also can i leave the channel alone and just cut the top off it and put my new boards along side of it and glass them to it?
