I've got a 1997 Mercruiser 5.7 EFI (Alpha 1). It looks like I have a couple of broken teeth on my flywheel so the starter is not engaging properly. So I need to replace the flywheel. Before I take this thing apart where should I look to get the specs for my flywheel? (I bought the boat used, so I have minimal original documents/manuals.) I know the serial numbers for the engine, transom and drive. Is there a way I can use these numbers to look up the flywheel info somewhere? Also, do I need to use a Mercruiser part, or can I use an aftermarket part? I've noticed on eBay there's a lot of GM parts out there. I'm new to the boating world so I appreciate anybody's guidance on this issue or any other boating tips you'd like to share.
