Flywheel Removal

I need to replace the stator on my 100 HP johnson. I believe I can remove the nut with an impact wrench, and I have a puller. Does anyone have any recommendations for holding the flywheel stationary while I torque the nut down after reass'y besides the screwdriver-in-the-teeth-jammed-against-the-case method? The nut requires 120 lb/ft of torque.

Thanks!

If you have an impact you wont have to hold the flywheel

Re: Flywheel Removal

To torque the nut correctly on reassembly- If you have an Autozone near you you can use their "loan a tool" program and use a flywheel holder tool to hold the flywheel while retorqing. Make sure you retorque to 120lb/ft so you dont end up shearing the flywheel key. If you dont have an autozone you only option is to do the screwdriver method just make sure you get someone to hold the flywheel while you torque. It is nearly impossible to do it by yourself - one slip and flywheel theeth can cause some nasty cuts.

red boat is right. Don't ask how I know (it had something to do with changing the rectifier on my 100 hp johnson).
