flywheel 86 johnson 4hp

Hello anyone, I'd like for some advice on removing the flywheel without damaging it.
I'm attempting to change points and condensed. I've done lawnmower plenty but this is different.
Cast aluminum flywheel doesn't look as though it will take much abuse. Is there a trick, I can't find a
Solid place under flywheel on each side as to my put it In a bind. Lawnmower do this and strike shaft
With hammer. Any help would b appreciated thankyou.

Look in the top secret files above for instructions the instructions to remove fly wheel

harmonic balancer puller , available at any auto parts store. $ 20

Hi seelevel. Don't hit it! As you noticed the flywheel is aluminum and not exactly built for whacking on. Most outboard flywheel's are removed using a harmonic balancer puller (a.k.a. fly wheel puller). You can usually get them at most autoparts stores for about $15. However, you'll want to get some GRADE 8 bolts and washers (usually 1/4" x 20 x 3") to use in place of the bolts that come with the puller, which are usually not strong enough. A small strap wrench is also handy for holding the fly wheel, but with such a small motor, you can probably hold it by hand, or get a friend ot hold it for you. Here are a couple pics. Thank you all so much. Didn't expect answers that quick. That's really cool to know you can get this kind of help. We thought thats what it would take, just have never pulled one before. Only motor I have so..... Thanks again guys. I'm sure ill have more questions when I get in there. Point gap etc. Holler at yall later.
