Flushing Antifreeze for winter

I took the spring out of my thermostat housing which opened the thermostat. I then used a funnel and a short piece of hose and let the raw water pump suck up 3 gallons of antifreeze. Ran engine until antifreeze cam out of discharge. It did push alot of water out before turning green. My question is by taking the thermostat out would this get antifreeze throughout the block and manifolds?

Maybe, maybe not. My money would be on NOT.

If you want to put antifreeze in a raw water cooled engine, then you DRAIN everything first and pour antifreeze into the hoses going to the manifolds and risers, and then remove the thermostat (Not just the spring, Sure hope you didn't actually take the stat apart) and pour antifreeze into the engine block.
All of this is a basic idea of how it's done. Without knowing what kind of engine, drive, year, make, manufacturer, or anything else about your engine, there are no specific answers.

GREEN??? Is this Ethelyne Glycol???? If so this is a big no no, how do you plan to capture it in the spring so as not to contaminate your local waters.
