What kind of fluorocarbon do you guys like? Last season I was using some really good 7 lb line from Japan. The tackle shop that I purchased from closed up and I can't remember the name of the stuff. I think all the writing was in Japanese anyway. I was thinking about trying the Bass Pro Shops XPS fluorocarbon. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Re: Fluorocarbon

Kool, not to change your subject but do you think it is really better? I am asking because about three or so years ago I tried some and hated it keep braking at the hooks on fish over five pounds or bigger. Do you see that it has help you hook more fish I think I was using 8# test and got so mad that I went to marina and bought some mono and had no more line brakes at the hook. But maybe the stuff is better now just wondering about the number of fish hooked on mono or floro and if it really helps.

Re: Fluorocarbon

MRS, I'm sold on fluorocarbon. I only keep one or two rods in the boat spooled with it. I'll fish it about 20% of the time. When the fishing gets tough, I think it helps. I didn't break any fish off on it this year. But none of the fish were over five pounds either. 5 was probably about the bigest. I mabey caught 6 on a practice day but I didn't bother to weigh it. This Japanese stuff was expensive, but I think the knot strength, and strenght over all was better than most of the other fluorocarbon lines out there. It was good stuff.

Re: Fluorocarbon

i can tell the difference bettween mono and flurocarbon espiassially texas rigging i get alot more bites with the flurocarbon.now the down size to fluro is it can be a little stiff or brittle.but as along as you wet the line when tying knots its okay.i liked the p-line the best so far,i've used the basspro brand also and it was a little more stiff so i use it for a c-rig leader now.the Vanish im not for sure about this past tourny this weekend i broke it 4 times on little backlashes i dont know weather the cold did something or what.

Ron, I was using Vanish maybe I should have tried an other brand but at the time I hated it maybe that is why I was hooking bigger fish to? (Kool) if you can remember the name of the japanese line could you post it I think I will do some research on the floro and give it another try.

Dude it's fluoro. Forget the 8 lbs stuff, unless it's on a spinning reel, even in gin clear water fish can't see 20 lbs fluoro line anyway. I use no less then 14 lbs Vanish and have no problem with it on my baitcaster. My spinning rods are medium and med-lite so it gives a lots and not break the line. Oh yeah, if the water is clear and you're not using fluoro, you're at a disadvantage.

Re: Fluorocarbon

I'll keep an eye out but I haven't seen the stuff anywhere else yet. If I can find it again I'll post the name. I was thinking about trying the PLine. I think they had two different kinds last time I looked and just by looking at the package I couldn't really tell what was different between the two.

Re: Fluorocarbon

Maybe I will try the P-line to I want the lighter line because that is when I hook the bigger fish but I am not fishing in the sticks. It is usalley in 15ft. to 25ft. and drifting humps bounce it off the humps. I got the 8# because that is what I was using in the mono thought it would be a good comparison. I think I will try just using 10# mono and then using a leader of 4ft. or so of the p-line and just tie direct to the mono with a double uni knot it works good.

Re: Fluorocarbon

Seaguar floro is what I use. I never spool up a whole reel with it. But I have a leader of fluro on all my soft plastic and jig rods. Never have a problem with breakage. I have pulled huge pieces of wood that I am snagged on up to the boat with the stuff. I had a rod snap but the line held.

Dont think I would like a spool of it because the stuff seems to have a lot of memory.

Re: Fluorocarbon

I did check out the Seaguar web site last night and think I might try that and the p-line and maybe a couple others. But this time I will not spool the whole reel either I think tying directly to the mono will let it give just enough to take care of the line braking at the hooks problem I was having.

Ron, what would you considers as cold? I haven't had to use fluoro in water below 40 degree yet but no problem so far.

I was just wondering what types of knots you guy use with the set up you use that could also have been part of my problems also.

Re: Fluorocarbon

Pline is the chit! Cx for backing CFX for the leader. The heavier test is ok but i don't worry about what fish can see as much as how it makes the plugs or meat react. When cinching the knot on Flouro make sure the line (knot) is wet or you will suffer breakoffs. It's just the nature of the beast. I run Flouro on the rivers for Steelhead all winter long. The copoly is great for abrasion resistance on rocks, logs & such. I spool up full to semi full and trim 60' or so off through the fall/winter season rather that respool.

Many don't know this but Seagar and Pline come from the same manufacturer.

Re: Fluorocarbon

Danger, good to know they are made by same company the p-line is less than the seagur. I did notice when tying the knots with the vanish I could not get it as wet as with mono and when first starting to fish I always do short cast just to get the line wet. Mono or braid or Fluoro but with the fluoro it would feel hotter and harder that anything I have fished with before. I think I just have to go into a learning curve with this stuff seems to be worth it. And will just use it for leaders not spool the whole reel with it. What knots do you use with it.
